Happy Engineers Day
Somebody sent a 'Happy Engineers Day' wish on a whatsapp group, created of course by peers from the dark distant times of semesters, projects, vivas and all those blissfully irrelevant terms in the current cushy times.
It's quite funny how this significant fact of life keeps disappearing from my memory. Somebody needs to scrape out the rust and give my dormant memory a good jog to remind me this. "Electronics Engineering"...folks, please be informed is the stream of engineering yours truly is certified in....REALLY!!!
One incident is however quite fresh in the memory. After getting married and moving in with husband and his folks, as luck would have it, the TV conked one day. Father-in-law very matter-of-factly asked me to take a look at it and said, if i can't fix it, it can then be taken out for repair. The sweating and shivering that followed, on hearing this, is a memory that can still set tremors.
Here i was, going all out to impress my new family. Did the blessed idiot box have to conk after i moved in! How i wriggled out of the situation is quite a matter of detail. Husband of course leaves no opportunity to rub it in. Having studied arts and economics, he has a much better understanding of machines, electronic or otherwise! And for this life time, each time we interact with a gadget or any of its distant cousins, i have to live with the taunt "who's the engineer here".
Happy Engineers Day, anyways!
