Teacher is always RIGHT
The Brat (all in kindergarten), was taught planetary system in school yesterday and came back sporting a star
on hand for memorizing the mnemonic associated with remembering the nine
planets.
While announcing the joy and pride
over the star earned, the harried mama was quite flabbergasted with the pace of
the present day curriculum, Mama’s worry being the urgent need to spruce up
fundamentals, lest being scoffed at by the brat’s generation.
All evening saw the Bart reciting the
mnemonic “My very EAREST mother, just showed us nine planets”, and I kept correcting
the Brat that it is not EAREST, but ‘earnest’ (now, this I know, although I learned
a different mnemonic representing Earth, but that of course is a matter of
detail). The Bart refused to accept this
and continued to flaunt her learning of the day. I can get quite worked up by
things like these, so I took up the matter with the Brat, showed her the word ‘Earnest’
and its meaning in the dictionary, and also showed her that there existed no
such word as ‘EAREST’ with Oxford dictionary being the proof, but NO, the Brat
refused to agree with me, because Teacher said so and Teacher can’t be wrong.
She still recites it the same way.
You see, Teacher can never be wrong, never mind reasoning and proof, Mama doesn’t
know what she is saying!
