Trip to the grocery store

Went grocery shopping over the weekend. This is one ritual the brat totally enjoys. Walking down the aisles of a super market thrills her to pieces! Since she enjoys this so much, I never do the monthly grocery shopping while she is away, and don’t even avail of the super convenient home delivery feature that most of these stores offer.

I must confess, that I am a little conservative with brands (of say cleaning agents, soaps, tooth pastes, etc), and not very experimental. I like to stick to what I have been buying for years now, or rather, what my family has been buying for decades, without applying much thought. May be somewhere, the ad appealed to us somehow and we started patronising the brand. But not now. Not with the brat around! She takes all the television commercials rather seriously, and what’s more, tries to sell them to me. “ Why always S*** Mama, you must try A***** this time. Mama, please, my clothes are looking dull, PLEASE, BUY THIS” (comes more of an order than a request). She tried to sell me an anti-aging cream, “ Mama really, all the black spots will go away with this”. With great amount of reasoning and convincing, somehow all the anti-aging creams and hair colours (well, now you know my problem areas!), lip balms and eye pencils went back on the shelves!

Now for the freebies. The brat always gets super thrilled when something comes free with something else! She sees no reason why I should not buy it. Now, she couldn’t contain herself when she saw this (picture below). As usual, I was not buying that.

She was utterly, totally, completely disappointed in me. “How can you not buy something when you get two packs free with it” was her contention. After rejecting half the products she tried to sell to me and after completely refusing to buy something just for the freebie, we somehow managed to attain harmony by the time we reached the billing counter. Lo and behold, what do we get at the billing counter! Cheese spread, which we didn’t buy! The brat was quite puzzled. The grocery store owner, seemed over the moon to announce this freebie to her! Turns out he was witnessing all this madness between us all along!
