April A-Z Challenge: D:- Direction Sense

My sense of direction is poor to the point of being ridiculous. For example, I can go in a known route at different conditions of daylight and declare I have lost my way. I can easily get confused going from one room to another in a big building. Walking through a maze can of course be really unnerving.

Left to myself, I will lose my way on a regular route, ask for directions unabashedly and reach the destination after spending 10 times more time and fuel. But never mind the time and fuel, I quite enjoy my disoriented expeditions.

As luck would have it, I chose to marry a man with high spatial intelligence. He has a thing for maps and rarely ventures an unfamiliar place without poring into a map first.

These were the times of new acquaintance, before the spouse had any inkling of my special abilities (or the lack of them). He would sit at the wheel, hand me a map so I could guide with directions. Tough times for me, in hindsight! I told myself it is not rocket science. I spent nights reading (trying to) books on maps instead of my staple Jane Austen. Well, but nothing helped! Topographical disorientation is my forte, how could I possibly beat it!
