Advantages of living with a forgetful Mum
Brat’s school was celebrating
Republic Day on Monday, the 28th. A notice was sent on Friday to
inform parents about this. I read the notice on Friday, and well, Monday was
another day!
Monday morning while the Brat was
getting dressed for school, she seemed to have a funny feeling that something
was not in place, she checked with me, “Mama, what day is it, what should I wear
to school today?” Me: “Red uniform Darling, now please hurry up”.
All dressed and well in time, we
reached the bus stop, the bus arrived, and children in the bus were happily
dressed (some of them, very imaginatively, I must say) to celebrate Republic
Day. Brat got into the bus, turned around and gave me a dirty look.
Having done some such thing not
very few times in the past, I prepared myself for the fuss to follow after the
Brat got home. She fussed briefly, a long time after she got back from school,
and I got a feeling she didn’t care much. I was secretly relieved.
Tuesday morning, while getting
dressed for school, she quickly walked to check her schedule (the husband,
being well aware of memory lapses in his aging wife, dutifully puts all notices
from school on the tack board in her room). She carefully checked, but couldn’t
find anything for the 29th. She checked again and then decided to go
ahead with the regular school uniform. All this without saying a word to me!
Turns out, after giving her Mum
enough opportunity, the brat has decided to take over her life. Yes, I did get
a jolt, but, hey, I have empowered the kid! Creating opportunities to learn
early on!
Now, this is what I call thoughtful parenting!
